Aleksandra Gieraga- born in 1968 (Ozorków), Poland - an artist occupied with the classical
areas of art: painting,drawing, sculpture, photography/ video, ephemeral campaigns; collaborating
with other artists, acting in international group Finding us!, art teacher, occasionally defining
also as an intervention artist,particularly on journeys, at workshops; the most important
area, plainly a daily practice is painting and teaching.
BIO
A graduate of the Władysław Strzeminski Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, a degree at the
Studio of Painting and Drawing run by Prof. Romana Hałat (1993). Between 1993 and
1994, at Prof. Andrzej Smoczyński's invitation, artistic residence at the Silk Studio
at the W.Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz. Between 1994 and 2006
an assistant lecturer at the Studio of Painting and Drawing run by Prof. R. Halat at the
Faculty of Visual Arts. At that time, she had gained a doctorate in fine arts (1999) and
in 2006, defended her habilitation thesis at the Faculty of Graphic Arts and Painting
of the W. Strzeminski Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz. Currently,
is running the Studio of Image at the Faculty of Painting and Drawing at her Alma Mater.
A founder of international art group Finding us (2013).

The artistic work closely related to broadening the meaning and functioning of an image
its links, relations in which it occurs as well as internal and external relationships,
and also physical and intellectual restrictions. It involves continually developing
the concept of an Open Image.
Being aware of being unable to create a homogeneous work based on an overall
analysis of reality has become the foundation for terming the entire artistic work
an Open Image. In connection with this, individual works, i.e. objects, projects,
paintings and other are called fragments, also those earlier ones, created
before the concept was formulated, i.e. 2000.

Participation in numerous exhibitions and international workshops
is treated by myself not only as an opportunity to have an artistic say,
but also, or maybe above all, as one of the forms of continually learning
and developing awareness.
